EDM – Electrical Discharge Machining
EDM – High Accuracy Wire Erosion
Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), is a manufacturing process that uses an electrically energized thin wire to slice through metal. This process allows a solid piece of conductive metal material to be eroded away using repeated electrical discharges (sparks) to produce a precision component.
At LPE we operate a Sodick AQ537L machine that provides outstanding accuracy and capability for cutting punches and dies and the tool making process.
The EDM process offers a number of advantages including:
- Machining of complex shapes that would otherwise be difficult to produce with conventional cutting tools
- Very fine holes and tapered holes can be produced
- Sharp inside corners can be produced
- High accuracy tolerances can be achieved
At LPE we tailor our EDM Wire Cutting service to each clients individual project, with materials sourced to customer specifications.
Some popular EDM Materials include;
- Stainless Steel

The EDM Machine room currently features;
Sodick AQ537L Machine – with a maximum bed size of 500mm x 400mm x 350mm
With a team of traditional model makers working in-house, combined with a full scale spray painting booth, LPE can meet a wide range of finishing requirements.
Finishing services will be affected by the material selected, please contact our sales team on 028 9070 6940 for further details.
Offering production of high accuracy components in a wide range of materials, EDM Wire Cutting is ideal for;
- The creation of mould tools
- Prototype Production
- Tool inserts
- Small hole drilling
- Post Machining
