Overview
Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM), is a manufacturing process that uses an electrically energized thin wire to slice through metal. This process allows a solid piece of conductive metal material to be eroded away using repeated electrical discharges (sparks) to produce a precision component.
At LPE we operate a Sodick AQ537L machine that provides outstanding accuracy and capability for cutting punches and dies and the tool making process.
The EDM process offers a number of advantages including:
- Machining of complex shapes that would otherwise be difficult to produce with conventional cutting tools
- Very fine holes and tapered holes can be produced
- Sharp inside corners can be produced
- High accuracy tolerances can be achieved
